Article 3:
We live in a world where everyone is so different yet so similar, so far yet so close, living in different places yet calling the same planet home. With every physical border there are hundred mental boundaries, that of culture, tradition and history. Immigrants might find it tough to adapt to the culture of another country, but they don't fully have to, fusion of the two cultures truly brings about the beauty in diversity.
If we take a look at India, India is a country incredible for its diversity; biological and cultural ; religion, language, food, customs ,dance, architecture differ from place to place. Indian civilization has had a pluralistic character from the start. Ethnic origins, religions, and languages are the major sources of cultural diversity. In a multi-lingual and multi-ethnic country like India, ethnic identities and culture traits of Indian people have never been frozen in time or in space.
For people migrating to India or wishing to, here are a few recommendations to take into regard;
USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT EFFICIENTLY
Do you want to go to a cafe late in the evening a few kilometres away? A car seems like a good option... NO! In many parts of India, one can find auto-rickshaws everywhere which are quite cheap and affordable, rather than driving a car in streets so filled that one could compare them to a waste-paper basket so full that one can't add more paper despite pushing it in and finding a parking space.
LEARN BASIC LOCAL LANGUAGE
In India, many people are not fluent in English. Hence, learning the regional language of the city/town is very important. One may still make do in the cities with English but out in the suburbs, regional languages are a must.
DIVISION THROUGH CULTURES/RELIGION
One must be sensitive to all religions as India is a land consisting people of different religions each having varied cultures. Being respectful to everyones culture and values is a must.
TRAVELLING LONG DISTANCE (INSIDE THE CITY)
It is advisable to avail the train and BEST Bus facilities for covering long distances in the cuty rather than using taxis or private vehicles and burning a lot of fuel as trains and buses can get you to your destination at a much cheaper rate and they are safe and quick. Trains in the Central and Western Zones of Mumbai work with the frequency of only 7-8 minutes.
The most important thing nations should be is accepting, open minded and loving to the immigrants. Only these things can spell 'p-e-a-c-e' in a very scary world
The world has diverse people; coexisting,
Asia has diverse people; coexisting,
India has diverse people; coexisting,
Maharashtra has diverse people; coexisting,
Mumbai has diverse people; coexisting,
St. Gregorios high school has diverse people; coexisting,
Our EuMInd group has diverse people; coexisting.
Migration of people helps us appreciate our diversity and seek beauty in our differences and find strength in our similarities,
Fusion of cultures only helps in making the world free of negative stereotypes,
It helps make the world a smaller place and a happier one,
A place where mental boundaries are replaced with bridges.
Through EuMInd we have become more sensitive and aware towards the issues related to migration, we have become more accepting o different ideas and opinions and viewpoints. As group members, we had different views, clashing perspectives and contrasting opinions, we still managed to work together and co-create! In a broader scale of things, we learnt that there can be unity in diversity, and we must keep alive humanity.
"
Do borders determine our levels of humanity?
Are we humans first, then citizens?
