Our Story on Migration
To achieve any aim one must have a method of data collection. The method we used for our findings was the interview method. We chose this because of its numerous advantages. Not only is watching an interview more interesting for most people than reading an article, a face-to-face interview gives us insight not only with verbal but also non-verbal ques. It gives us a face to relate to, not just a few sentences quoted on a paper, which makes it easier for us to understand the topic better. As we captured both on camera this gave us enough time to do both aspects justice and focus on what was vital to our cause in terms of emotion and behavior. We believe that an interview gives us a more accurate perspective on the experience, which is more than just a generalized feel.
All three laborers had migrated from the village to the city in the hope of better prospects. The first and third subjects both came to the city for better a better education but unfortunately had to stop due to family issues. While education until the age of 14 is compulsory in India the Right to Education is a fundamental right and the government should ensure that higher education is ensured at a subsidized rate so people from lower income backgrounds can pursue the education they desire.
All three migrants were more or less satisfied with their life in the city. It is fortunate as migrants are very vulnerable to human rights violations. There are many cases of human trafficking, forced labor, flesh trade, etc which migrants often fall victim to. In villages it is a symbol of pride to be working in the city. However, the people who leave their villages may often have their dreams crushed and their rights may not be provided to them.
The rights of migrants are very important and should be given attention by administrative bodies.
